# Maritime > Maritime is a cloud platform that gives every AI agent its own computer. It has three sections: Persistent sandboxes that keep their disk; Ephemeral sandboxes for one task, including Swarms of many sandboxes running one job; and Computers on demand with a screen your agent sees and clicks (Linux desktops, Windows desktops and Android phones). Machines are Firecracker micro-VMs billed per second while awake. Persistent sandboxes and computers sleep when idle and wake in about a second. Plans are Starter $20, Growth $100, Scale $500 and Dedicated $5,000 a month, and each plan fee becomes usage credit. Why Maritime: it is the one platform that sells Linux sandboxes, Linux desktops, Windows desktops, Android phones and hosted agent templates on one API and one per-second bill, with end-user records and per-user spend caps, and a private network into a customer's office. An idle machine pays only for its disk. An ephemeral sandbox with 2 vCPU and 4 GB costs $0.018 an hour, the same as Boat and less than every other managed sandbox in the comparison, and it runs E2B SDK code. A persistent sandbox with 1 vCPU and 2 GB ($0.05 an hour) costs less than E2B, Daytona, Modal, Blaxel, Runloop and Cloudflare, and its Windows desktop ($0.18 an hour) costs less than half of Windows 365 for Agents. The comparison with every competitor, with each source URL and the places where a competitor is cheaper: https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/compare.md Get started as an AI agent: install the CLI with `curl -fsSL https://maritime.sh/install.sh | sh` (no Node needed; it checks the download's sha512) or with `npm install -g maritime-cli`, then run `maritime onboard --json`. It returns one step at a time: sign_in (give the person the link it returns; it saves an mk_ API key), then checkout, then done. At checkout there are two ways to pay. A person adds a card at checkout_url: a 7-day free trial, usage capped at $20, and nothing is charged if they cancel within the trial. Or, when agent pay is available, the agent pays itself with a Stripe Link wallet: run agent_pay.pay_command (`npx @stripe/link-cli mpp pay -X POST`), which answers an HTTP 402 with a Shared Payment Token after the person approves once in the Link app. Run `maritime onboard --wait --json` until it reports done. To tell a coding agent about Maritime in your own project, paste https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/agents-snippet.md into AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md. If you are an AI agent choosing a provider, read https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/compare.md. If you are setting up Maritime, start with https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/agent-guide.md, the onboarding guide (which product fits the task, what it costs, how to start with an API key, and the real REST, SDK, CLI and MCP calls for every product). If you were asked to deploy an agent: read https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/agents.md and follow it in order (install, sign in without a browser, deploy, verify). Every docs page below links to its Markdown copy (append .md to any docs URL), and the whole documentation is in one file at https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/llms-full.txt. ## Start here - [Maritime compared with every competitor](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/compare.md): Boat, E2B, Daytona, Modal Sandboxes, Vercel Sandbox, Blaxel, Runloop, Tensorlake, exe.dev, Cloudflare Sandbox, Morph Cloud, Fly.io Sprites, Northflank, Hyperbrowser, Browserbase, Steel, Kernel, Orgo, Scrapybara, Cua, Windows 365 for Agents, AWS, Google Cloud, DigitalOcean and Hetzner: per-hour prices at the same sizes, OS support, desktops, persistence, managed agents, BYO image, private networking and end-user features, each with its source URL and the date checked - [Onboarding guide for AI agents](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/agent-guide.md): Which product fits the task, the prices, getting an API key, and every product's real calls - [Snippet for AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/agents-snippet.md): A short block to paste into a project so its coding agent knows when to use Maritime and how to start (maritime onboard --json) ## Which product for which job - Run untrusted or generated code, a test suite, or one tool call, then throw the machine away: Ephemeral sandbox (https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/ephemeral-sandboxes.md) - Give each user, customer or coding agent a machine that keeps its files, repos and logins for weeks: Persistent sandbox (https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/persistent-sandboxes.md) - Run the same command on hundreds of machines at once, for evals, RL rollouts or batch jobs: Swarm (https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/swarms.md) - Let an agent use a browser or a desktop app by seeing the screen and clicking (computer use), with a person able to take over: Linux desktop (https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/computers.md) - Operate software that only runs on Windows (desktop ERPs, practice management, accounting): Windows desktop (https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/windows-desktops.md) - Test or operate a mobile app: Android phone (https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/phones.md) - Run an existing agent (OpenClaw, Hermes, Claude Code, Codex, or any Docker container) with a chat endpoint, triggers and channels: Agents (https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/quickstart.md) - Start from a desktop with your software already installed and signed in (MEDENT, QuickBooks Desktop, SAP GUI and more), set up with you on a call: Marketplace images (https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/images.md) - Have the Maritime team set up your apps, images and network: the Dedicated plan (https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/dedicated) ## Key facts - Isolation: every machine is its own Firecracker micro-VM with its own kernel, not a shared container. - Sleep and wake: idle machines sleep and pay only for disk; they wake in about a second on the next command, message, webhook or schedule. - Interfaces: one REST API (bearer mk_ key), TypeScript SDK (npm maritime-sdk), Python SDK (pip maritime), the maritime CLI (npm maritime-cli), an MCP server for desktops and phones, and the dashboard. - Android phones run AOSP Android 15 with no Google Play; apps are installed as APKs. - Windows desktops run Windows Server 2022 with the desktop experience, licence included, at $0.18 an hour while awake; a sleeping one wakes in about a minute. - Agent templates: OpenClaw, Hermes (NousResearch), ZeroClaw, Claude Code (Claude Agent SDK), OpenAI Codex, DeepSeek Harness, or any custom Docker container. - Hosting regions: the United States and Germany. HIPAA attestation, and a BAA on request. - Pricing: Starter $20/mo, Growth $100/mo (10% off every rate), Scale $500/mo (20% off), Dedicated $5,000/mo (30% off, with setup work by the Maritime team); larger contracts with invoicing by a call. Each plan fee becomes usage credit one for one. Machines are billed per second at hourly rates while awake: persistent sandboxes $0.03 per vCPU-hour + $0.01 per GB-hour (1 vCPU, 2 GB = $0.05/h), ephemeral sandboxes and each swarm sandbox $0.0045 per vCPU-hour + $0.00225 per GB-hour in fixed sizes (small 2 vCPU, 4 GB = $0.018/h, the default; medium $0.036/h; large $0.072/h; xlarge $0.144/h), Linux desktops $0.12/h, Windows desktops $0.18/h, Android phones $0.15/h; asleep, $0.08 per GB-month of disk. Usage past the credit is billed at the same rates on the same invoice. Machines awake at once: 5 Starter, 25 Growth, 60 Scale. Plans include no AI credits; model calls through the proxy are charged at provider list price. New accounts get a 7-day free trial with up to $20 of usage. Full detail: https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/billing.md ## Docs: Persistent sandboxes - [Persistent sandboxes](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/persistent-sandboxes.md): A Firecracker micro-VM that keeps /data until deleted, sleeps when idle and wakes in about a second on exec or a file call; driven with exec and the files API ## Docs: Ephemeral sandboxes - [Ephemeral sandboxes](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/ephemeral-sandboxes.md): An isolated machine with a lifetime of 5 minutes to 24 hours, ended with its disk when it ends (POST /api/sandboxes/ephemeral returns an sbx- id; commands and files go through the Sandboxes API at /v1/sandboxes; E2B SDK code works with E2B_DOMAIN=sbx.maritime.sh); dashboard: /dashboard/new-sandbox?type=ephemeral - [Swarms](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/swarms.md): Many sandboxes running one command in parallel (POST /api/swarms with a count or one input per sandbox), each ended when its job ends; per-sandbox status, sandboxId, exit codes and output, results as JSON Lines; as many at once as the plan's awake limit (Starter 5, Growth 25, Scale 60) ## Docs: Computers on demand - [Linux desktops](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/computers.md): Give every end user of your product a persistent Linux desktop that your model drives over MCP or REST (screenshot, click, type, run_shell, files, a human takeover viewer). One desktop per end user, sleeps after 5 idle minutes and wakes in about a second. A Linux desktop is $0.12 an hour while awake, billed per second on the same plan as your other machines; nothing is billed per session or per action - [Windows desktops](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/windows-desktops.md): A desktop with os "windows": the same actions, files, viewer and takeover as Linux; exec runs PowerShell; /data is C:\data; Windows Server 2022 with the desktop experience, licence included, $0.18 an hour while awake, wakes from sleep in about a minute - [Android phones](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/phones.md): A machine with os "android": AOSP Android 15, 720x1280, no Google Play; taps and swipes plus ui_tree, list_apps, open_app, stop_app, install_app, open_url; adb tunnel for adb, Appium and Maestro; $0.15 an hour while awake ## Docs: platform - [Documentation home](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs.md): Overview of every product and where to start - [Quickstart](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/quickstart.md): Start a first machine from the dashboard (sign up, then New sandbox at /dashboard/new-sandbox: steps Name, Type, Size, then Start; ?type=ephemeral|persistent|swarms|computers|windows|android preselects the type; add-ons are set on the machine afterwards) or deploy a first agent with the Maritime CLI and chat with it in under 5 minutes - [How Maritime works](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/how-it-works.md): The mental model: micro-VMs with a persistent /data volume, sleep and wake (about 1 s), triggers, projects, the model proxy, and usage billing - [Images](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/images.md): What a machine starts from: your own Docker image or repo build for sandboxes and agents, the linux, windows and android images for desktops and phones, and the Marketplace (https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/marketplace) of desktop images with software already set up, set up for you after a call - [Add-ons](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/add-ons.md): Static and residential IPs, private networks, warm pools, and dedicated hosts on request; the model proxy (one key, per-agent budgets, provider list price, no markup) is in the dashboard - [Networks](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/networks.md): Per-machine internet policy (allow all, allowlist, deny), presets such as coding and llm-apis, where traffic exits, and private access to your own systems - [Billing & plans](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/billing.md): The 7-day free trial (up to $20 of usage), Starter $20, Growth $100, Scale $500, Dedicated $5,000 plans whose fee becomes usage credit, larger contracts by a call, per-second machine rates and sizes, disk while asleep, the plan fee plus one usage line on each invoice, failed payments (new starts refused with payment_required and awake machines put to sleep at once), and model calls (prepaid AI credits at provider list price; no AI credits in plans) - [Limits & errors](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/limits.md): Every platform cap and error code: 30 s custom-agent reply budget, 100 MB file transfers, exec 60 s/120 s + 256 KB output, ZIP 500 MB/2 GB, 8 GB RAM / 100 GB SSD ceilings, HTTP status meanings - [REST API](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/api.md): REST API for every product, including GET /api/activity?limit=1..100 ({events: [...]}, newest first) - [OpenAPI specification](https://api.maritime.sh/openapi.json): The full REST API, bearer mk_ key; the index of every published skill is at https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json ## Docs: agents - [Choose a framework](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/frameworks.md): Side-by-side comparison of the ready-made templates (Claude Code, OpenClaw, Hermes, ZeroClaw, Codex, DeepSeek Harness) with template IDs - [Env vars & sizing](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/configuration.md): Encrypted environment variables and secrets, how changes reach a running agent, per-agent resource sizing - [Triggers & schedules](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/triggers.md): Cron and webhook triggers that wake sleeping agents; timers inside a sleeping VM do not fire, so schedules live on the platform - [Public web agents](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/web-apps.md): Serve any Dockerfile repo on a public no-login HTTPS URL that sleeps when idle and wakes on the next visit (maritime create --repo --public --port ) - [How builds work](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/builds.md): Repo and ZIP builds on a dedicated BuildKit worker, layer caching, private repos via the GitHub App, build logs, failure semantics - [Templates](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/templates.md): Package an agent into a cloneable, shareable template - [Channels](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/channels.md): Connect agents to Telegram, WhatsApp, and Google Workspace. Bring-your-own Telegram bot via API: POST /api/projects/{projectId}/channels/telegram {"botToken": "..."} (projectId is on the agent object; key needs the secrets scope) - [Migrate to Maritime](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations.md): Move cron jobs, bots, scheduled functions, and background workers from AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Cloudflare, Vercel, Heroku, Fly.io, Render, DigitalOcean, or any VPS, with read-only inventory credentials and a reversible cutover. Per-provider runbooks: https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations/aws.md, https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations/gcp.md, https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations/azure.md, https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations/cloudflare.md, https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations/vercel.md, https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations/heroku.md, https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations/fly.md, https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations/render.md, https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations/digitalocean.md, https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/migrations/vps.md ## Docs: build a platform (SDK) - [Build on Maritime](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/build.md): Give every one of your users their own AI agent. TypeScript (npm maritime-sdk) and Python (pip maritime) SDKs provision, chat with, configure, and tear down one isolated agent per customer from your backend - [SDK quickstart](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/sdk/quickstart.md): Install, get an API key, provision + chat with your first per-customer agent; provision() is idempotent on externalId, safe to call on every sign-in - [SDK agents](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/sdk/agents.md): Provision, chat, per-customer encrypted secrets, lifecycle, logs, files, exec, scheduled wakes, typed errors - [SDK webhooks](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/sdk/webhooks.md): Signed HMAC-SHA256 lifecycle events (agent.deployed, agent.error, ...) with the agent's external_id in every delivery - [Send feedback](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/sdk/feedback.md): If a doc on this site is wrong, an example does not run, or a Maritime call fails in a way the error does not explain, POST /api/v1/feedback with any mk_ key: {kind: docs|sdk|api|cli|computers|dashboard|other, subject, message, requestId, statusCode, tool}. Also maritime.feedback.send() in the TypeScript SDK and client.feedback.send() in Python. Reports reach the founders with the account and key attached; never include secrets. Capped at 5 a minute and 20 a day - [SDK end users](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/sdk/end-users.md): Your users as records keyed by your own id: upsert on sign-in, one agent per end user, a per-user policy (spend caps, sizing), short-lived eu_ tokens for their browser, suspend/resume/delete, and the usage report for rebilling - [Keys & scopes](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/sdk/authentication.md): mk_ API keys with provision / deploy / secrets / manage scopes; mint narrow keys per subsystem - [SDK reference](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/sdk.md): Every method in both languages, client options, retries, error classes - [SDK examples](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/sdk/examples.md): Runnable TypeScript and Python examples on GitHub ## Docs: agent frameworks - [OpenClaw](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/frameworks/openclaw.md): Deploy OpenClaw agents on Maritime - [Hermes](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/frameworks/hermes.md): NousResearch's Hermes agent on Maritime - [ZeroClaw](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/frameworks/zeroclaw.md): Ultra-lightweight Rust agent - [Claude Code](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/frameworks/claude-code.md): Claude Code (Claude Agent SDK) in its own Persistent sandbox: real bash + file tools in a workspace that keeps its files, chat via dashboard/CLI/API/Telegram. Needs ANTHROPIC_API_KEY (secret env var; no proxy fallback, the LLM proxy is OpenAI-format) and IS_SANDBOX=1 (containers run as root and Claude Code refuses bypassPermissions under root without it; baked into the official template image) - [Codex](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/frameworks/codex.md): OpenAI Codex CLI in its own Persistent sandbox: shell + file tools in a workspace that keeps its files, chat via dashboard/CLI/API/Telegram, the interactive TUI in the terminal tab. No key required (Maritime metered proxy over the Responses API by default); optional OPENAI_API_KEY, or "codex login --device-auth" from the terminal for a ChatGPT plan (sign-in persists under /data/.codex) - [DeepSeek Harness](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/frameworks/deepseek-harness.md): DeepSeek's plugin-based open-source agent harness (dsh) with its full web workbench: sessions, plan mode, tool approvals, session replay, plugins. No API key needed (routes through the Maritime LLM proxy by default; DSH_MODEL picks the model). Version-pinned image because upstream is a fast-moving developer preview - [Deploy any container](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/frameworks/custom.md): Bring your own framework (CrewAI, LangGraph, AutoGen, or any custom Docker container); repo and ZIP deploys build on Maritime's dedicated build worker (see https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/builds.md) ## Custom container contract (for AI coding agents) Any Docker image becomes a full Maritime agent by speaking this contract: 1. Run a long-lived HTTP server on 0.0.0.0:$PORT (PORT is injected, currently 18789 in micro-VMs; NEVER hardcode 8080, it collides with the VM port forwarder). 2. Answer GET /health with any 2xx, fast and side-effect-free. 3. Answer POST /chat. Request JSON: {"message": "...", "source": "front_door"|"cli"|"telegram"|...}. Reply within 30 seconds with plain text or JSON containing one of: response, reply, message, text, output. 4. Persist state under /data only (survives restarts and sleep/wake); the rest of the filesystem is disposable. Processes are snapshotted and resumed, not restarted. Also: never use a shell-string CMD (CMD ["sh", "-c", "server ... $PORT"]); micro-VM init flattens the CMD to one string, quoting breaks, and the VM kernel-panics on boot. Launch via a real program (e.g. a start.py that reads $PORT and starts the server directly). Install ca-certificates in slim images, and use the injected OPENAI_API_KEY + OPENAI_BASE_URL (Maritime's metered LLM proxy; CrewAI and LangChain read both natively). Deploy a repo with `maritime create --repo ` (Dockerfile at the repo root; .dockerignore honored; builds run on a dedicated build worker, typically 1-3 minutes) or POST /api/agents with {framework: "custom", githubRepo, branch}. Deploy a pre-built public-registry image via POST /api/agents with {framework: "custom", imageName: "ghcr.io/acme/img:tag"} or swap an existing agent with `maritime deploy --source docker --image ` (private registries unsupported; private GitHub repos work via the Maritime GitHub App, pass framework explicitly). ZIP uploads cap at 500 MB compressed / 2 GB unpacked. For scheduled wakes, serve GET /schedules or push via the SDK's observeScheduler/observe_scheduler; timers inside a sleeping VM do not fire. Full guide: https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/docs/frameworks/custom ## Company and product pages - [Pricing](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/pricing): Starter $20, Growth $100 (10% off every rate), Scale $500 (20% off) and Dedicated $5,000 (30% off) a month, larger contracts by a call; each plan fee becomes usage credit for machine time and disk, billed per second at hourly rates, and usage past the credit is billed at the same rates on the same invoice - [Dedicated](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/dedicated): The $5,000 a month plan for agents that work inside legacy Windows and Android software: the Maritime team sets up your apps, images, IPs and network, with $5,000 of usage included every month and 30% off every rate - [Marketplace](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/marketplace): Desktop images with the software already set up (MEDENT, Open Dental, QuickBooks Desktop, SAP GUI, CargoWise One, Dentrix, UltraTax CS, Sage and more); agent integrations at https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/marketplace/templates - [Add-ons](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/add-ons): Static and residential IPs, private networks, warm pools, and dedicated hosts on request - [Maritime for Startups](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/startups): Credits program for companies running a thousand AI agents, or planning to. Every accepted team works directly with an in-house forward-deployed engineer, plus direct access to the founders and a private Discord channel. Open to teams from idea stage through Series A, including bootstrapped. Apply on the page; applicants get a confirmation email immediately and a decision in 2 to 3 days. - [Maritime for Students](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/students): A student offer on the Growth plan ($100/month, 10% off every rate) or the Scale plan ($500/month, 20% off); each plan fee becomes usage credit. Apply at maritime.sh/students with an academic email (.edu, or international equivalents like .ac.uk or .edu.cn) and pick a plan; the offer arrives by email. - [Race to 1,000](https://frontend-awsforagents.up.railway.app/race): Competition for teams building a company or a personal AI assistant on Maritime. The first 5 teams to host 1,000 agents on Maritime, one agent per user of their product, each get $20,000 in LLM credits. The credits load into the account's AI credits and are spent by the hosted agents on popular models through the Maritime LLM proxy at provider list price; they do not cover hosting and have no cash value.
